Bathroom Remodel Timeline in Palm Coast: What to Expect Week by Week
The number one question we get from Palm Coast homeowners planning a bathroom remodel is not about cost. It is about time. How long will my family be without this bathroom? When can I shower at home again? Will this really be done in three weeks like the HGTV show?
Honest answer: a typical bathroom remodel in Palm Coast takes 3 to 6 weeks from demo day to final walkthrough. The big variables are scope, materials availability, and whether anything unexpected shows up when we open the walls. Here is the realistic breakdown week by week.
Before We Start: Planning (2 to 4 weeks)
Good remodels start before demolition. We need to understand what you want, measure the space, select materials, order anything with lead time, and prepare a clear scope so everyone is on the same page. This phase happens before we ever swing a hammer, and rushing it is the top cause of remodel delays downstream.
In the planning phase you will:
- Walk through the existing bathroom with us and talk through what you want changed
- Decide on layout changes (moving the shower, changing the vanity position, etc.)
- Pick tile, fixtures, vanity, mirror, lighting, and paint color
- Get a detailed written quote covering scope, materials, and timeline
- Order any specialty materials with long lead times, like custom tile or specific vanities
We quote every bathroom project individually. There is no hourly rate because that incentivizes slow work and surprises. Our quote is the quote.
Week 1: Demolition and Rough Work
Demo day is usually day one of the actual work. Everything that is coming out, comes out: tile, tub or shower, vanity, toilet, mirror, flooring. We dispose of debris and take the space down to studs and subfloor where needed.
With the space open, we inspect for anything that needs to be addressed: rotted subfloor, leaks inside the walls, old plumbing that should be updated, electrical that needs upgrading to code. This is where small surprises get caught. Catching them in week one is much better than finding them in week four.
Typical day 2 to 5 work:
- Rough plumbing changes (moving drain lines, updating supply lines)
- Rough electrical (adding outlets, relocating fixtures, adding heated floor wiring if selected)
- Subfloor repair if needed
- Framing changes for new layout
- Waterproofing and cement board install for the new shower area
Week 2: Tile and Major Install
Tile is usually the longest single task in a bathroom remodel. Custom shower tile can take 3 to 5 days alone depending on size, pattern, and whether there are niches, benches, or accent bands. Floor tile adds another 1 to 2 days. After tile, grout has to cure before anything else touches it.
We handle all of it: shower walls, shower floor, bathroom floor, backsplash if the vanity has one, and any accent features like a framed niche or herringbone inlay. This is where the bathroom starts to look like the Pinterest board you showed us in week one.
Tile is where homeowners fall in love with the project. The transformation between a tiled shower and an untiled one is dramatic. That mid-project reveal is usually when our clients start telling friends and family.
Week 3: Fixtures, Vanity, Paint
With tile done and grout cured, we install the shower glass if selected, vanity, countertop, sink, faucet, toilet, mirror, and light fixtures. Painting happens after most fixtures are in so we can cut clean lines around new trim and fixtures.
Typical week 3 checklist:
- Vanity and countertop install
- Sink, faucet, and drain hookup
- Toilet install
- Shower glass installation (if selected)
- Mirror and medicine cabinet mounting
- Light fixture install and electrical trim
- Paint (walls, ceiling, trim)
- Baseboard and door trim
Week 4: Final Details and Walkthrough
The last week is the difference between a job that looks good and a job that looks finished. Caulking every joint correctly, touching up paint, cleaning the glass, installing toilet paper holders and towel bars, resetting the HVAC register, and walking the space with you to identify anything that needs attention.
We do a final walkthrough with you before we call the job complete. Anything you flag, we fix. That is part of the one-year workmanship guarantee we put on every project.
Common Causes of Delays
Most delays fall into three categories:
1. Material lead times
Specialty tile, custom vanities, and specific fixtures sometimes have 2 to 6 week lead times. We order early in the planning phase to avoid this, but if you fall in love with something obscure, plan accordingly.
2. Hidden damage
Rotted subfloor, leak damage, old plumbing that cannot be reconnected safely. We build a small buffer into every quote for this, but major surprises add days.
3. Homeowner changes mid-project
The "while you are at it" changes. Moving a wall, adding a window, changing the tile pattern after half the tile is up. Every change adds time. We are happy to accommodate, we just want you to know what it costs in schedule.
Can You Shower During the Remodel?
If you have a second bathroom in the home, yes. If this is your only bathroom, we can often keep the toilet functional during the remodel and leave you with a tub or shower until the last few days. Talk to us about your specific layout in the planning phase and we will figure out the smoothest approach for your family.
